A music program is a form of creative expression. It also provides an opportunity for the students to experience
the value of teamwork in achieving a common goal,
as well as giving the students an opportunity to focus
and to develop problem-solving skills.

Ensemble Instruction

Natomas School of Music offers instruction for small ensembles that include, but are not limited to, string ensembles, brass ensembles and mixed woodwinds. These can also transfer to or originate as larger ensembles such as a concert band, orchestra, or jazz band. And we are proud to be able to offer instruction for contemporary band music including the use of electronic instruments.

All of our programs emphasize the importance of reading and understanding musical notation. So even if students are not taking a theory class, they are still involved in discussions about why the music they are playing is composed and executed the way it is. This not only supports strong performance but also helps the student recognize the qualities and nuances of the music they hear daily.

The schedule for ensemble instruction is coordinated through our music director, Mr. Norman Keown.
